Constance Rubini Appointed Head of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Bordeaux

10/11/12 - Appointment - Bordeaux, Musée des Arts décoratifs - After the departure of Guillaume Ambroise, replaced by José de Los Llanos at the head of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, the director of the Musée des Arts décoratifs, Bernadette de Boysson, is retiring and will be replaced in January by Constance Rubini, now in charge of cultural programs at another decorative arts museum, the one in Paris.

A student of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales de Paris, Constance Rubini wrote a dissertation on "la diffusion du mobilier contemporain de 1930 à 1980 [the spread of contemporary furniture from 1930 to 1980], then between 2004 and 2010 was editor in chief of the journal, Azimuts, published by the Cité du design in Saint-Etienne. She also teaches at several institutions, the Ecole nationale des Arts décoratifs in Paris, the Ecole supérieure d’Art et Design in Saint-Etienne, as well as Sciences-Po in Paris as part of Bruno Latour’s "médialab" program and finally at the Ecole cantonale d’Art in Lausanne.
Constance Rubini organized several exhibitions at the Arts décoratifs in Paris, notably on Jean Royère in 1999-2000, Inga Sempé in 2003 and "Dessiner le design" in 2009-2010. She has also been general curator for the 2010 edition of the Biennale internationale du Design in Saint-Etienne.

We hope she will not focus exclusively on the new space at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Bordeaux which, since 2009, presents 20th century and contemporary design as the museum holds above all collections ranging from the 17th to the 19th century. However, Constance Rubini is no stranger to older periods as she wrote a master’s thesis on Palma le Jeune au Département des Arts Graphiques du Musée du Louvre. Catalogue des dessins provenant de la collection Saint-Morys, suivi d’une liste des autres dessins under the supervision of Mr. Antoine Schnapper.
