Death of Didier Aaron

11/1/09 – Obituary – Didier Aaron, the famous antique dealer, passed away last 3 January at the age of 85. A member of the Resistance in the Vercors region during the Second World War, he created the company with his name (Didier Aaron et Cie) in 1946, taking over a business his mother, Jeanne, had started in 1923. At first a specialist in 18th century French furniture (and Asian objects), he later expanded his offerings into drawings and old master and 19th century paintings. After opening a gallery in New York in 1977 and London in 1984 (a third one opened in Los Angeles in 1982 but has since closed), he developed an important international clientele.
In 1991 Didier Aaron passed the reins on to his son, Herve’, who has directed the business ever since and was recently elected President of the Syndicat national des antiquaires in France.
