We can see that the most beautiful painting at this auction, The Pond was not acquired by the museum due to its high price (750,000€). According to Le Télégramme, this canvas was purchased by a private Parisian museum, that of Lettres et Manuscrits and will hang next to the artist’s correspondence.
We regret however, that none of the Symbolist paintings representing a figure, such as Love (cat. 17, sold for 91,000€) or especially Clémence Isaure (cat. 26, sold for 103,000€) was purchased by Cahors. One of these canvases, Muses, Last Rays (cat. 5) was the only one (along with Justice, cat. 36) to remain unsold. It could therefore not be pre-empted, assuming of course that the museum even wanted it. If the success of the fund-raising drive continues to grow, a purchase might still be possible perhaps...
