James Cuno appointed as head of the J. Paul Getty Trust

13/5/11 – Appointment – J. Paul Getty Trust – The Board of Trustees of the J. Paul Getty Trust, which manages the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Research Institute, the Getty Foundation and the Getty Conservation Institute, announced it had appointed James Cuno as President and Chief executive officer starting next August 1st. Dr. Deborah Marrow had taken over in the interim since the death of James M. Wood in July 2010 but will now return to her position as director of the Getty Foundation.

James Cuno, who is 60, is a very well-known figure in the museum world and had headed the Art Institute in Chicago since 2004.
After starting as a professor at Vassar College where he taught between 1983 and 1986, he then served as director of the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts from 1986 to 1989, the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College from 1989 to 1991, the Harvard University Art Museums from 1991 to 2003 and the Courtauld Institute from 2003 to 2004. He also taught art history while at Harvard and at the Courtauld Institute.
