Madonna with the Yarnwinder
Oil on panel - 48,3 x 36,9 cm
Drumlanring Castle, Collection of the Duke of Buccleuch

October 6, 2007 – Stolen painting – Collection of the Duke of Buccleuch – Having passed away last month, the Duke of Buccleuch was not able to witness the return of the Madonna with the Yarnwinder, which was stolen four years ago and which has just been recovered by the police. The new Duke of Buccleuch confirmed this information today on his website, specifying that the painting is in good condition. The Madonna is ascribed to Leonardo da Vinci, a very debated attribution by specialists (two other versions are known). Although the composition is undoubtedly due to this artist, it could nevertheless be an excellent workshop copy.
