Péristyles, the Journal of the Amis du Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy

6/5/13 - Journal - Nancy, Musée des Beaux-Arts - An art history journal, especially one which has been around for some time, is so rare that we would like to point out a very discreet bulletin founded in 1992 which has appeared since then at regular intervals, twice a year.

The title of the journal is Péristyles and is published by the Association des Amis du Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. Its goal is to cover happenings at the museum, both exhibitions as well as changes in museum layouts or acquisitions. The articles are always related to the collections and some offer true scholarly contributions to their subject. The association also organizes colloquia, often linked to the exhibitions, and the proceedings are published in one of the Péristyles issues.
In December 2009, the colloquium, Rire avec les monstres accompanied the exhibition, Beautés monstres. In late May, there will be another gathering on La répresentation du corps à la Renaissance, in connection with the show, L’Automne de la Renaissance, which will also appear in the journal.

The only drawback to this type of publication is its confidentiality. The Association members receive Péristyles, so joining is one way of buying it especially since an issue costs 10€ and membership is only 25€ a year. Anyone interested may also purchase the journal by ordering it directly from the association. Of course, ideally, we would like to see it offered in specialized bookshops.
In any case, and as we do for many other journals, we will now post the contents of new issues as they appear.
