24/12/12 - Acquisition - Lyon, Musée des Beaux-Arts - The museum in Lyon just announced that it has met its goal in the fundraiser to acquire the Ingres painting depicting Pietro Aretino Receiving an Envoy of Charles V (ill. ; see news item of 13/9/12). The 80,000 euros still needed for the purchase, a total of 750,000 euros from the Bayser Gallery in Paris, were contributed by 1,536 donors. The painting will be hung in the museum in February 2013.

A few weeks ago, the Bibliothèque nationale also closed its fundraising campaign successfully in order to acquire the Livre d’heures of Jeanne de France (see news item of 30/8/12) and the appeal launched by the Conseil général of the Doubs region for Courbet’s Oak (see news item of 3/9/12) now also seems to be sure of meeting its goal, though it does not officially close until December 31, 2012.

Providing information about the end of these fundraising campaigns is not always an easy task. We often know the results before the official close-off date but prefer not to announce it too soon so as not to discourage further donations. For this reason, we wish to thank the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon for informing us immediately of the official end of the fundraiser (which had been extended for a few days).
