July 18, 2007 — Acquisition — Lyon, Musée des Beaux-Arts — The Flight Into Egypt by Nicolas Poussin will in fact be displayed permanently at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Lyon, after the French government reached an agreement with the owners to buy it for 17 million euros.

According to the press statement released by the Ministry of Culture, the work was acquired for the Musée du Louvre but will be immediately entrusted to the Musée de Lyon. The Louvre itself played an important part in this acquisition by working actively to bring about the purchase and contributing a share of its own funding. Over twenty companies participated in the operation including AXA, Total, Webhelp and the Mazars Group. On its end, the museum in Lyon had brought together, with the help of the Léa and Napoléon Bullukian Foundation, a circle of firms [1] to raise funds. The city of Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes Region also participated in the acquisition.
