Vincent Pomarède Leaving the Département des Peintures at the Louvre

7/1/14 - Museum - Paris, Louvre - Vincent Pomarède, Director of the Département des peintures at the Musée du Louvre since 2003 when he replaced Jean Pierre Cuzin, created an unexpected surprise yesterday, even in his own department, announcing that he was applying for a new position created by Jean Luc Martinez in the museum. The application moved swiftly as he was officially apointed to the new post today : Director of Support à la Médiation [sic] (the information was published by the museum’s internal newsletter). He will nevertheless continue to carry out his current responsibilities until a successor is found.

We are now looking forward to finding out the name of the person who will replace him. Since Jean Luc Martinez took over as head of the Musée du Louvre, all of the persons in charge of a department will have changed, either leaving to retire or to take over other positions. On the subject, we would like to point out that Sophie Juge, until now Director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon, will replace as of 3 March 2014, Geneviève Bresc as head of the Département des sculptures. We had learned the news in early October but had agreed to delay the announcement per Sophie Jung’s request out of deference to her predecessor, although we were not however informed when it was made official (in December) ; for this reason, we did not write an article at that time nor shall we refrain from publishing this type of information in the future.
